Round every bend was a spectacular sight
This magnificent countryside - mine by birthright!
For so many years I’ve wanted to roam
and now I’m so glad at last to be home,
safe and secure where I know I belong
‘mongst rivers and mountains and auld folksong
Some hairy moments, much to my dismay
Good days and bad days and I really must say
The weather was glorious, oh what a surprise,
I didn’t get drenched or suffer sore feet
So why did I wait so long to walk this Way
Its trails traversed by so many in glorious mid May
Losing my bank card was not in the plan
but straight to my rescue came an elderly man
who drove me in search of the bus I’d been on
with no payment or fuss he was my champion
My Guardian Angel was looking down that day
when I ventured to walk The West Highland Way
I’ve left my soul there but will be back -
just me, a bit older with my trusty back-pack
These majestic peaks have stolen my heart
but still lie in my memories right from the start
So proud to be a Scottish Lass till the day I die
Nothing will surpass - that spectacular scenery,
Mountains and sky
In the depths of bleak winter with skies ever grey
I can close my eyes and my thoughts drift away
to the times when I - younger and fitter -
strode those glens, paused to hear the birds twitter
Camera in hand to record what I saw
oh yes, no doubts in my mind, the landscape was braw
